Tunnel

Lee Jung-soo, a car salesman, is driving home after a successful deal when the tunnel he is passing through collapses on top of him. Trapped in his vehicle beneath concrete and rubble, he initially expects rescue to come within hours. What he has with him is limited: two bottles of water, the birthday cake he bought for his daughter and a phone with a partly charged battery. Above ground, emergency teams led by Dae-kyung struggle to reach him, while the incident draws attention from media, politicians and the public.

Tunnel is a 2016 Korean adventure, drama and thriller directed and written by Kim Seong-hun, whose previous film was A Hard Day; it was followed by Kingdom: Ashin of the North and Ransomed. Ha Jung-woo stars as Lee Jung-soo, with Bae Doona as Se-hyun, Oh Dal-su as Dae-kyung, Shin Jung-geun, Nam Ji-hyun and Jeong Seok-yong among the credited cast of thirty-eight.

The film was released in August 2016 and runs 126 minutes. Made for about one million dollars, it took roughly fifty-two million dollars worldwide, a large return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 6.8 out of 10 from over ten thousand votes, and on TMDB 7.3 out of 10 from several hundred. A critics' rating of 7.6 out of 10 from fifteen reviews places it slightly above the audience score on IMDb, while the TMDB figure is closer to that critics' average.
