Alex and his girlfriend Scarlett are driving through the desert of the American Southwest on their way to Los Angeles when they stop in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Scarlett has been feeling increasingly unwell, so the couple takes a room at a mysterious hotel so she can rest. From there, Scarlett disappears, and Alex sets out to find out what happened to her, a search that forces him to confront sides of himself he had kept hidden and draws him into something stranger than he expected.
Bottom of the World is a drama and thriller directed by Richard Sears, who also produced alongside Robert Menzies, from a screenplay by Brian Gottlieb. Jena Malone plays Scarlett and Douglas Smith plays Alex, with Ted Levine, Tamara Duarte, Kevin Owen McDonald and Jon McLaren in supporting roles. The British-Canadian production runs 85 minutes and was released in March 2017.
Audience response has been mixed. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5 out of 10 from around 5,400 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 5.2 out of 10 from roughly 128 votes, a small sample that reflects the film's limited reach rather than any broad consensus.
