• Reese Witherspoon, Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, Emily Blunt, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, Abby Cornish and Julianna Hough were considered for the role of Amy Dunne.
• This is the first feature film shot entirely in 6k resolution (6144 x 3160).
• Although the events of the film take place in North Carthage, Missouri, filming took place in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Casting for extras was held at the Rose Theatre at Southeast Missouri State University, which is also located in Cape Girardeau.
