Short description
Nick and Amy Dunne appear to be a happy married couple until the morning of their fifth wedding anniversary, when Amy vanishes from their home in a small Missouri town. Traces of a struggle and a series of clues she left behind suggest something deliberate rather than a simple disappearance, and the police investigation quickly settles on Nick as the prime suspect. As the case draws national media attention, his account of events comes under scrutiny, and details emerge that cast doubt on the couple's image of domestic harmony. Nick insists he is innocent and tries to find out what happened to his wife, uncovering how much she had kept from him.
David Fincher directed this adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel, and Flynn wrote the screenplay herself. It arrived as the tenth of thirteen films Fincher has directed in chronological order, following The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and preceding Mank. Ben Affleck plays Nick, Rosamund Pike plays Amy, and the cast includes Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Carrie Coon and Kim Dickens. The production had a budget of 61 million USD and took 369 million USD worldwide.
Reception was strong across audiences and critics. On IMDb it holds 8.1 out of 10 from 1.2 million votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.9 from 20,433 votes. Critics gave it 8.1 out of 10 from 377 reviews, a rating matching the IMDb figure and above the TMDB score. The film runs 149 minutes.

- Ben Affleck's birthday coincides with the birthday of his character Nick – August 15th.
- Ben Affleck postponed work on his own film in order to work with David Fincher. Affleck said, "He's the only director I know who can do anyone's job better than the people doing it." Once on set, Affleck subtly adjusted the camera settings, betting a crew member that Fincher wouldn't notice. But when filming began, Fincher immediately asked why the image looked a little dull.
- Although the events of the film take place in North Carthage, Missouri, filming took place in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Casting for extras was held at the Rose Theatre at Southeast Missouri State University, which is also located in Cape Girardeau.
