Sour Grapes

This documentary follows the rise and fall of Rudy Kurniawan, a man who infiltrated the luxury wine market in the United States. By producing counterfeit vintages worth millions of dollars, he managed to deceive wealthy collectors and industry experts. The story explores the lack of regulation within the high-end wine trade and the fragile nature of luxury valuations, culminating in a legal battle and a ten-year prison sentence handed down in New York in 2014.

Directed by Reuben Atlas, this was the first of two films he directed, followed by Farruquito: A Flamenco Dynasty in 2026. Produced by Al Morrow and Catherine Simeon through Met Film Production in the United Kingdom, the film features archive footage of Rudy Kurniawan. The cast includes wine writer Corie Brown, Laurent Ponsot, and legal professionals Jason Hernandez, Jerome H. Mooney, and Vincent Verdiramo.
