Five college friends reunite a decade later for a bachelorette weekend in Miami, renting a beachfront house and setting out to celebrate without restraint. Their party takes a disastrous turn when a hired male stripper dies in an accident, leaving the women to hide what happened before the police become involved. Covering it up pushes them through a long, chaotic night of bad ideas and improvised schemes, and the ordeal ultimately draws them closer together.
Lucia Aniello directed the film from a screenplay she wrote with Paul W. Downs, and both also served as producers alongside Dave Becky and Matt Tolmach. It was Aniello's first feature as director. Scarlett Johansson leads as Jess, with Jillian Bell, Zoë Kravitz, Ilana Glazer and Kate McKinnon as the other four friends; Downs appears as Peter. Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures were among the production companies, on a budget of about 20 million dollars.
Released in June 2017, the film took roughly 47 million dollars worldwide, more than twice its production budget. Audiences rate it modestly: on IMDb it holds 5.2 out of 10 from around 59,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.7 out of 10 from a much smaller base of about 2,100. A critics' rating of 5.3 out of 10 from 172 reviews is close to both audience scores.
