Bradley Thomas, a former boxer, sees his marriage crumbling and loses his job as a car mechanic. He takes work as a drug courier for an old friend, and the money improves his situation until he is caught in a shootout between police and the people he runs with. Wounded and arrested, he is sent to prison, where enemies from outside force him to carry out violent acts, turning the facility into a battleground.
S. Craig Zahler wrote and directed the film, his second feature after Bone Tomahawk (2015) and before Dragged Across Concrete (2019). Vince Vaughn plays Bradley, with Jennifer Carpenter as his wife Lauren, Don Johnson as Warden Tuggs, Udo Kier as a figure known as The Placid Man, and Dion Mucciacito and Geno Segers in supporting roles. Around fifty cast members and 120 crew are credited.
Made for about 10 million dollars, the film runs 132 minutes. On IMDb it holds 7.1 out of 10 from roughly 83,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7 out of 10 from about 1,600 votes, indicating a solid audience response. A critics' rating of 7.6 out of 10 from 99 reviews places it slightly above the audience scores, suggesting a broadly favorable critical reception.
