Susan Stevenson’s husband, an anthropologist, has disappeared in the jungles of New Guinea while searching for a cannibal tribe that most experts consider extinct. Convinced he is still alive, Susan travels there with her brother Arthur to mount a search of their own. Local authorities are reluctant to help, and the two are forced to rely on Edward Foster, a jungle guide with a troubled past, to lead them through the Marabata region toward the mountain held sacred by the Puka people.
Sergio Martino directed this Italian adventure horror film, the sixth of the thirteen features he made in chronological order, following A Man Called Blade and preceding Saturday, Sunday and Friday. He wrote the screenplay with Cesare Frugoni, and Luciano Martino produced it for Dania Film and Medusa Distribuzione. Ursula Andress plays Susan, with Stacy Keach as Foster, Claudio Cassinelli as Manolo, Antonio Marsina as Arthur Weisser, Franco Fantasia as Father Moses and Lanfranco Spinola as Consul Burns.
Released in 1978 and running 102 minutes, the film sits within the cycle of Italian cannibal-themed jungle adventures produced that decade. Its reception has been modest: on IMDb it holds a rating of 5.2 from around 5,200 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.2 from roughly 114 votes. The two audience scores agree closely, indicating a small but consistent viewer response rather than a widely embraced title.
