Mrs. Winterbourne

Connie Doyle is eighteen, pregnant and on her own after her boyfriend throws her out. She boards a train to Boston and shares a compartment with Hugh and Patricia Winterbourne, a young married couple also expecting a child. When the train crashes, Connie wakes in a hospital to find the Winterbourne family has mistaken her for Patricia, who died in the wreck. Taken into their wealthy Boston home by Hugh's mother Grace, Connie settles into her new identity and grows close to Hugh's brother Bill. Her old boyfriend Steve then reappears and threatens to expose her.

Richard Benjamin directed the film, the tenth of the twelve features he made, arriving after Milk Money and before The Pentagon Wars. Phoef Sutton and Lisa-Maria Radano wrote the screenplay, and the cast is led by Shirley MacLaine as Grace, Ricki Lake as Connie, and Brendan Fraser as both Bill and Hugh, with Loren Dean as Steve and Miguel Sandoval as Paco among forty-one credited performers.

Released in April 1996, the film cost around 25 million dollars and took about 10 million worldwide, a return well below its budget. Audiences are warmer than critics: on IMDb it holds 6.3 from roughly 9,300 votes, and on TMDB 7.2 from a much smaller 227 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 4.5 from 33 reviews.
