Kursk

Kursk recounts the sinking of the Russian nuclear submarine K-141 Kursk in the Barents Sea in August 2000, during a naval exercise. After explosions tear through the vessel, a group of sailors survives in the wreckage while their families on shore press for information and demand a rescue. A British commodore works to secure permission from the Russian authorities to mount a rescue attempt, but political delays and bureaucratic resistance stand in the way.

Thomas Vinterberg directed the film, which sits between Far from the Madding Crowd and Another Round in his filmography. Robert Rodat wrote the screenplay, and the cast is led by Matthias Schoenaerts and Léa Seydoux as Mikhail and Tanya Averin, with Peter Simonischek, Max von Sydow, August Diehl and Colin Firth in supporting roles. It was produced by EuropaCorp, Belga Productions and VIA EST, with Ariel Zeitoun, Fabrice Delville and Christophe Toulemonde producing.
