Brigsby Bear

James Pope has spent his life in an underground bunker, raised by Ted and April, who he believes are his parents and who have taught him that the outside world is contaminated. His only window on the world is Brigsby Bear Adventures, a children's television series made for an audience of one. When the show stops without reaching a conclusion and James is brought back to his birth family, he has to adjust to ordinary life, aided by his sister Aubrey. Discovering that no one else has ever heard of Brigsby, he decides to give the story the ending it never had, working with Spencer, an aspiring effects artist, toward a film version of the bear's adventures.

Dave McCary directed from a screenplay by Kyle Mooney and Kevin Costello. It was the first feature McCary directed, followed by My Favorite Shapes by Julio Torres and The Catch. Kyle Mooney plays James, with Mark Hamill as Ted, Jorge Lendeborg Jr. as Spencer, Matt Walsh and Michaela Watkins as Greg and Louise Pope, and Ryan Simpkins as Aubrey. Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone produced, and the credited cast and crew number in the dozens.

The film runs 97 minutes and was released in July 2017. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from around 19,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.1 from just over 400 votes. A critics' score of 6.8 from 165 reviews places it close to the audience ratings, suggesting a broadly similar response across both groups.
