The Train Robbers

Lane, a veteran of the Civil War, is hired by a widow named Mrs. Lowe to recover a cache of stolen gold. Her late husband took part in a train robbery, and she wants the money returned so that his name can be cleared. Lane brings a few old friends along, drawn by the reward she promises, but the dead man's former associates are also after the gold and are willing to kill anyone who gets in their way.

The film is a Western directed and written by Burt Kennedy, who had worked in the genre throughout his career, from the 1964 film Mail Order Bride through The War Wagon and Hannie Caulder to this 1973 release. John Wayne, who had a long association with Westerns, plays Lane opposite Ann-Margret as Mrs. Lowe, with Rod Taylor, Ben Johnson, Christopher George and Bobby Vinton in supporting roles. It was produced by Michael Wayne for Batjac Productions.

The Train Robbers runs 92 minutes. Made for a budget of 5 million dollars, it took in about 3 million dollars worldwide, so it did not recoup its costs on those figures. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 from around 7,500 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.3 from roughly 157 votes.
