The Heartbreak Kid

Lenny Cantrow is a New York salesman who has just married Lila Kolodny and taken her to Miami for their honeymoon. Only a few days into the trip, he meets Kelly Corcoran, a tall blonde woman from a wealthy Minnesota family, and becomes convinced that marrying Lila was a mistake. What follows is his attempt to pursue Kelly while his new wife remains largely unaware of what is happening.

The film was directed by Elaine May, the second of the four features she made, arriving between A New Leaf and Mikey and Nicky. Neil Simon wrote the screenplay, and Edgar J. Scherick produced it for 20th Century Fox and Palomar Pictures International. Charles Grodin plays Lenny, with Cybill Shepherd as Kelly and Jeannie Berlin as Lila; Audra Lindley and Eddie Albert appear as Kelly's parents, and Mitchell Jason plays Cousin Ralph. It runs 105 minutes.

Released in December 1972, the film took in about 6 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from roughly 6,500 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.7 out of 10 from a much smaller pool of 112 votes. A critics' rating of 7.6 out of 10 from 63 reviews places it above both audience scores.
