Breathe

Breathe tells the story of Robin Cavendish, a charismatic and adventurous Englishman whose life changes abruptly when he is paralysed by polio at the age of twenty-eight, in the late 1950s. Shortly after marrying Diana, and while the couple are expecting their first child, he loses the use of his body from the neck down and becomes dependent on a respirator. Against the advice of the medical establishment, Diana brings him home and pushes for ways of living that had not been attempted before. Their partnership leads them to campaign for better conditions for severely disabled people, a struggle that reaches well beyond their own household.

The film is the directorial debut of Andy Serkis and was written by William Nicholson. It was produced by Jonathan Cavendish, Robin and Diana's son. Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy play the couple, with Hugh Bonneville, Tom Hollander, Miranda Raison and Diana Rigg among the supporting cast.

Released in October 2017, it is a British and Swiss production. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.2 from around 26,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.4 from roughly 818 votes. A critics' rating of 6.3 from 166 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores, suggesting viewers responded more warmly than reviewers did. It earned about 5 million dollars worldwide.
