The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir

Ajatashatru Lavash Patel, known as Aja, has spent his life in a Mumbai neighbourhood earning money through street magic and fakir tricks. After his mother dies, he learns something about the father he never knew and travels to Paris to look for him. There he meets Marie, but before anything can develop between them he hides in a wardrobe at a furniture store and is shipped away, setting off a journey across Europe that takes him through Britain, Italy and Spain. Along the way he encounters people who change how he sees his life and what he actually wants.

The film is a Europe-set adventure comedy directed by Ken Scott, his fourth feature after Starbuck, Delivery Man and Unfinished Business, and later followed by Once Upon My Mother. Dhanush plays Aja, with Erin Moriarty as Marie, Bérénice Bejo, Barkhad Abdi, Gérard Jugnot and Ben Miller in supporting roles. The screenplay was written by Luc Bossi and Romain Puértolas, and the credited cast runs to 60 names.

It was released in May 2018 and runs 96 minutes. On IMDb it holds 6.8/10 from around 9,200 votes, and on TMDB 6.9/10 from 313 votes, while a critics' rating stands at 5.5/10 from 28 reviews, so audiences have responded more warmly than reviewers. Box office came to about 3 million USD.
