Lucky is a 2017 American drama about a 90-year-old atheist living in a small, remote desert town. Set in his ways and fiercely independent, he fills his days with familiar routines that include yoga and coffee in the morning and drinks and conversation in the evening. When a fall forces him to confront his own mortality, he begins to question his beliefs and take stock of his life, weighing his long-held convictions against the lives and priorities of the people around him.
The film stars Harry Dean Stanton in the title role, alongside David Lynch, Ron Livingston, Ed Begley Jr., Tom Skerritt and Barry Shabaka Henley. It was directed by John Carroll Lynch and written by Logan Sparks and Drago Sumonja.
Released in September 2017, Lucky runs 88 minutes. It holds a rating of 7.3 out of 10 on IMDb from around 28,000 votes and the same score on TMDB from roughly 667 votes, indicating a modest but appreciative audience. A film critics' rating of 7.8 out of 10 from about 150 reviews places it somewhat higher than the audience scores. The cast of 27 and crew of 111 reflect a small-scale independent production.
