- In Madeleine L’Engle’s 1962 novel, which served as the literary basis for the screenplay, Meg and her relatives were of European descent. The filmmakers preferred to “modernize” this nuance and included representatives of different races in the family. According to Chris Pine, who also starred in the film as Meg’s father, it was the presence of representatives of different races in the main character’s family that attracted him and convinced him to join the project.
