Orphan

This drama follows four female characters at different stages of life, from childhood to near middle age. A young girl in the countryside faces a tragedy during a game of hide-and-seek, while a teenager repeatedly runs away from her unhappy home. Another young woman encounters disaster after moving to Paris, and a successful adult woman finds she cannot escape her history. Over time, these distinct figures merge to reveal they are different versions of the same woman struggling for freedom and self-determination.

Directed by Arnaud des Pallières, this was his second feature film, following Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas and preceding Party of Fools. The screenplay was written by des Pallières and Christelle Berthevas. The ensemble cast features Adèle Exarchopoulos, Adèle Haenel, Solène Rigot, Gemma Arterton, Jalil Lespert, and Sergi López.

The film has received moderate ratings from viewers, holding a 6/10 on IMDb from 1,600 votes and a 5.5/10 on TMDB based on 120 votes. Film critics gave the movie a lower score of 5/10 from 8 reviews, indicating that general audiences viewed the work more favorably than professional critics.
