Ingrid Goes West

Ingrid Thorburn is a young woman whose grip on reality is slipping. After her mother's death, she pours her fixation into Taylor Sloane, a lifestyle influencer whose polished Instagram presence presents a life that looks flawless. Convinced that proximity to Taylor will solve her loneliness, Ingrid abandons her old life and relocates to Los Angeles, determined to turn an online admiration into a real friendship. Once she works her way into Taylor's circle, her need to hold onto that connection grows increasingly erratic, and the gap between the image she has studied and the people around her closes in a way she cannot control.

Matt Spicer directed and co-wrote the film with David Branson Smith, making his feature debut here; he later directed Little Brother. Aubrey Plaza, who also produced, plays Ingrid, with Elizabeth Olsen as Taylor, O'Shea Jackson Jr. as Ingrid's landlord Dan Pinto, Wyatt Russell as Ezra O'Keefe, Billy Magnussen as Taylor's brother Nicky and Pom Klementieff as Harley Chung. The film runs 98 minutes.

Released in 2017, the film took in about 3 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.6 from roughly 51,000 votes, and on TMDB a 6.4 from about 1,100 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 7.1 from 197 reviews. The critical score sits noticeably above the audience scores, a split that suggests reviewers responded to the satire more readily than general viewers did.
