Black Death

Set in England during the first outbreak of the bubonic plague, the film follows a young monk, Osmund, who is ordered by the church to guide a group of soldiers to a remote village. The village is rumoured to be untouched by the disease, and its inhabitants are said to be led by a necromancer who can bring the dead back to life. The knight Ulric commands the expedition, whose purpose is to learn whether forbidden rituals are being practised there. What the travellers find is a community that appears healthy and content, and a test of the faith that sent them.

Christopher Smith directed the film, which came after Creep, Severance and Triangle in his filmography. Dario Poloni wrote the screenplay, and Jens Meurer, Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae produced. Sean Bean plays Ulric, Eddie Redmayne plays Osmund, and Carice van Houten plays Langiva. The cast also includes Kimberley Nixon, John Lynch and Tim McInnerny, with 21 credited cast members and 107 credited crew.

Made in Germany and the United Kingdom on a budget of about 11 million dollars, the film runs 102 minutes. It was released in 2010. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 from roughly 54,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from about 1,000 votes. A film critics' rating of 6.3 from 68 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
