My Cousin Rachel

Philip Ashley was raised in Cornwall by his older cousin Ambrose, who was like a father to him. When Ambrose's health declines, he travels to Italy, where he meets and marries a distant relative named Rachel. Ambrose dies there, and Philip comes to suspect that Rachel caused his death, though his certainty is complicated by the fact that she has inherited nothing, as the estate passed to him. Rachel eventually arrives at the Ashley home in England, and Philip's plan for revenge gives way to an attraction he struggles to accept, leaving him torn between grief, suspicion, and desire.

Roger Michell directed and wrote the screenplay, with Kevin Loader producing. Rachel Weisz plays Rachel, opposite Sam Claflin as Philip, alongside Holliday Grainger, Iain Glen, Pierfrancesco Favino, and Simon Russell Beale. Adapted from Daphne du Maurier's novel, the British and American production was released in June 2017 and runs 106 minutes.

Michell's filmography, in order, includes Persuasion, Notting Hill, Changing Lanes, The Mother, Enduring Love, Morning Glory, this film, Blackbird, The Duke, and Elizabeth: A Portrait in Part(s); My Cousin Rachel is his seventh feature. It earned about 9 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from roughly 22,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.7 out of 10 from about 628 votes. A critics' rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 157 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores.
