Mudbound

In the Mississippi Delta shortly after the Second World War, Henry McAllan moves his wife Laura and their children from Memphis to a cotton farm he has taken on, leaving behind the city life she knew for hard labour and a remote setting. Sharing the same land are Hap and Florence Jackson, who have worked it across generations and keep striving for a life of their own despite the racial barriers of the segregated South. Two men return from the war: Henry's younger brother Jamie and the Jacksons' son Ronsel, and an unlikely friendship forms between them.

Mudbound was directed by Dee Rees, who wrote the screenplay with Virgil Williams. It is her third feature, following Pariah and Bessie. Carey Mulligan plays Laura, Jason Clarke plays Henry, Jason Mitchell plays Ronsel, Mary J. Blige plays Florence, Garrett Hedlund plays Jamie and Rob Morgan plays Hap. It was produced by Kim Roth, Cassian Elwes and Christopher Lemole, with a budget of about 10 million dollars.

On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 7.4 from roughly 57,000 votes, and it has a matching 7.4 on TMDB from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 8.3 from 202 reviews places it noticeably above the audience scores.
