Wildlife

Set in a small Montana town in the 1960s, Wildlife follows fourteen-year-old Joe Brinson, the only child of Jeanette, a housewife, and Jerry, a golf professional. When Jerry loses his job, he struggles to find a new sense of purpose and volunteers to help fight a large forest fire burning near the Canadian border, leaving his wife and son behind. In his absence, Jeanette grows distant and begins a relationship with an older man, and Joe watches his parents' marriage come apart. The film is based on Richard Ford's novel of the same name.

Wildlife is Paul Dano's first film as director, made after a long career as an actor, and he wrote the screenplay with Zoe Kazan. Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan play Jerry and Jeanette, with Ed Oxenbould as Joe; Dano and Gyllenhaal are among the producers. The production was small in scale and drew modest returns at the box office.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.1 from roughly 40,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.6 from about 800 votes. A critics' rating of 7.7 from 219 reviews places it above both audience scores, suggesting stronger approval from reviewers than from general viewers.
