Short description

Fresh out of university, a Turkish young man with literary aspirations returns to his home village and starts scraping together money to publish his book. While trying to reconnect with his old friends and environment; his uncertainty, existential struggle and his father’s gambling addiction bring him grave difficulties.

Filming took 3.5 months.
The film received a 15-minute standing ovation from the audience at the Cannes International Film Festival.
The film was based on the true story of Akin Aksu's father, and the main character, Sinan, was modeled after Aksu himself.
Nuri Bilge Ceylan cast Murat Cemcir as Idris after seeing his monologue from the finale of a comedy series on YouTube.
Initially, the film was edited to run for 5 hours. The final editing process took Nuri Bilge Ceylan nearly a year.
It took over 9 months to write the screenplay.
Due to the whims of the local weather, the final scene featuring the protagonist and his father was shot in five different weather conditions. In the end, the director chose the version shot during a snowfall.
