Midnight Sun

Midnight Sun is a romantic drama about Katie Price, a seventeen-year-old who has spent her life confined indoors during daylight hours because a rare condition makes any exposure to sunlight dangerous. She passes the days writing songs on her guitar and watching Charlie Reed from a distance, and by night she plays her music in public. When Charlie, a skater she has long noticed, comes across one of her performances, the two begin a summer romance. Katie keeps her illness hidden from him, and as the relationship deepens she must decide whether to tell him the truth about the life she has been living.

The film was directed by Scott Speer, its third feature in a run that began with Step Up Revolution in 2012 and continued with Status Update and I Still See You the same year. Eric Kirsten wrote the screenplay, and Bella Thorne and Patrick Schwarzenegger lead the cast as Katie and Charlie, with Rob Riggle as her father Jack, Quinn Shephard as her friend Morgan and Suleka Mathew as Dr. Paula Fleming.

Made for about 3 million dollars, Midnight Sun took roughly 27 million worldwide, a strong return on its production cost. On IMDb it holds 6.6 out of 10 from around 35,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.8 from a much smaller pool of voters. A critics' rating of 4.2 out of 10 from 65 reviews places it well below both audience scores.
