Last Flag Flying

Three former Marines who served together in Vietnam meet again decades later. Larry Shepherd, known as Doc, has lost his son, a young Marine killed during the war in Iraq, and asks his old friends Sal Nealon and Richard Mueller, now a reverend, to help him with the burial. The three men, changed by age and by lives that took them in different directions, set out together on the journey and find themselves revisiting the war that shaped them and the bond it left behind.

Richard Linklater directed and co-wrote the film with Darryl Ponicsan, and also produced it. It is the sixteenth of the twenty-two films he has directed, arriving between Everybody Wants Some!! in 2016 and Where'd You Go, Bernadette in 2019. Steve Carell plays Doc, with Bryan Cranston as Sal and Laurence Fishburne as Reverend Richard Mueller; Yul Vazquez, J. Quinton Johnson and Deanna Reed-Foster are among the credited cast of fifty. The production, backed by Lionsgate, Amazon Studios, Detour Filmproduction and Big Indie Pictures, had a budget of 25 million dollars and took about 2 million dollars worldwide, a wide gap between its cost and its theatrical returns.

Opinion was generally favorable: film critics gave it 7.1 out of 10 across 220 reviews, while on TMDB it holds 6.7 out of 10 from 505 votes, and on IMDb audiences rated it similarly. The film runs 125 minutes.
