Short description

Micki & Maude is a 1984 American romantic comedy about Rob Salinger, a television reporter who wants a child, while his wife Micki, a lawyer, has long put her career ahead of starting a family. Rob begins an affair with Maude, a cellist, and she becomes pregnant. Just as he prepares to leave Micki so he can marry Maude, Micki reveals that she is expecting a child as well. Unwilling to give up either woman, Rob secretly marries Maude and tries to keep both marriages going without either wife learning about the other, an arrangement that produces escalating complications. The film was directed by Blake Edwards, the twentieth of the twenty-seven features he directed in chronological order, following Curse of the Pink Panther and preceding That's Life!, from a screenplay by Jonathan Reynolds and produced by Tony Adams. Dudley Moore plays Rob, with Amy Irving as Maude, Ann Reinking as Micki, Richard Mulligan as Leo Brody, George Gaynes as Dr. Eugene Glztszki and Wallace Shawn as Dr. Elliot Fibel among a credited cast of forty-two. Released on 21 December 1984, it runs 118 minutes and took about 26 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from roughly 3,600 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.7 out of 10 from a much smaller sample of 68. The audience scores on both platforms point to a modest, mixed response rather than broad acclaim.
