I Am Bolt

I Am Bolt is a documentary about Usain Bolt, the Jamaican sprinter widely regarded as the fastest man in history. Filmmakers Gabe Turner and Ben Turner follow Bolt through his preparations for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and trace his path from his early years in Jamaica to the heights of his sport. The film covers his training, travelling and competing, as well as quieter moments away from the track, and includes interviews with Bolt himself alongside fellow athletes and teammates, building a portrait of both the record-breaking competitor and the man behind the achievements.

Gabe Turner and Ben Turner, who work together as directors, made the film in 2016, the year of the Rio Games. Bolt appears as himself, and other sporting figures such as Neymar Jr, Serena Williams and Pelé also feature. At 107 minutes, the documentary balances race footage and archive material with personal reflection.

Reception has been positive across audiences, with a rating of 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 4,100 votes and the same score on TMDB from a much smaller pool of 117 votes. A film critics' rating of 6.7 out of 10 from 14 reviews places professional assessments slightly below the audience scores, indicating solid but not unanimous praise.
