The Case for Christ tells the story of Lee Strobel, an award-winning investigative journalist at the Chicago Tribune and a committed atheist. When his wife Leslie becomes a Christian, the change unsettles their marriage, and Lee sets out to use his reporting and legal training to examine the claims of her new faith and show that it does not hold up. His inquiry brings him face to face with conclusions he did not expect, ones that challenge what he has always taken for granted.
The film is directed by Jon Gunn and written by Brian Bird, and it follows Gunn's earlier feature Do You Believe? from 2015. Mike Vogel plays Lee Strobel and Erika Christensen plays Leslie Strobel, with supporting turns from Faye Dunaway, Robert Forster, Frankie Faison and L. Scott Caldwell. Released in April 2017, it runs 112 minutes and was made for about 5 million dollars, going on to take roughly 18 million dollars worldwide.
Audience response has been moderately positive on TMDB, where it holds 6.9 out of 10 from 334 votes, while on IMDb it sits at 6.4 out of 10 from 12,000 votes. A film critics' rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 27 reviews places it below both audience scores.
