Veer-Zaara

Veer-Zaara tells the story of an Indian Air Force officer, Veer Pratap Singh, who rescues a young Pakistani woman named Zaara after a bus accident. What begins as a brief encounter grows into a deep bond between them, but Zaara is already promised to another man, and the divide between their two countries pulls them apart. Two decades later, a human rights lawyer, Saamiya Siddiqui, takes up Veer's case and finds him imprisoned in Pakistan, where he has remained silent for years. As she works to uncover what happened to him, she gradually draws out the story of his love for Zaara and the forces that kept them separated. The film is fictional rather than a biography, though the lawyer character was reportedly inspired by a real Pakistani rights advocate.

Yash Chopra directed the film from a screenplay by Aditya Chopra, who also produced it with Yash Chopra under their family banner. It was one of the director's later works, arriving between Darr and Jab Tak Hai Jaan in his filmography. Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta play the central couple, with Rani Mukerji as the lawyer and supporting turns from Kirron Kher, Divya Dutta and Boman Irani among a credited cast of twenty-four.

Released in November 2004, the film runs just over three hours. It received strong audience approval on IMDb, where it holds a 7.8 rating from roughly 66,000 votes, and a 7.5 on TMDB from a much smaller voter pool.
