Band Aid

Anna and Ben are a married couple whose constant arguing has worn their relationship down to the point of near-collapse. In a final attempt to hold things together, they decide to turn their disputes into material, writing songs about whatever they are fighting about and forming a band as a way of working through it. Their neighbour Dave joins them, and the music becomes the channel through which the pair confront what has gone wrong between them.

Zoe Lister-Jones directs and writes the film, and also stars as Anna opposite Adam Pally as Ben. Fred Armisen plays Dave, with Susie Essman, Retta and Hannah Simone among the supporting cast. It was produced by Natalia Anderson and Lister-Jones. Band Aid is the first film Lister-Jones directed, followed by The Craft: Legacy in 2020 and How It Ends in 2021.

The film runs 91 minutes and blends comedy, drama and music. Made for a budget of around 10 million US dollars, it earned a 7.2 out of 10 from 73 critics' reviews, a higher figure than the 6.6 out of 10 it holds on IMDb from roughly 6,200 votes and the 6.3 out of 10 it has on TMDB from a much smaller pool of 181 votes, suggesting that reviewers responded more warmly to it than general audiences did.
