Roxanne Roxanne follows Lolita "Roxanne Shanté" Gooden, a teenager growing up in the Queensbridge housing projects in Queens, New York, during the early 1980s. Still only fourteen, she has earned a reputation as a formidable battle rapper while helping to support her family and navigating the dangers of her neighborhood. Her response record to the hit "Roxanne, Roxanne" turns into one of the defining moments of the era's hip-hop scene and brings her widespread attention, though she remains a teenager carrying adult responsibilities.

Michael Larnell directed and wrote the film, which stars Chanté Adams as Roxanne Shanté. The cast also includes Mahershala Ali, Nia Long, Elvis Nolasco, Shenell Edmonds and Adam Horovitz. Pharrell Williams produced alongside Nina Yang Bongiovi and Mimi Valdes, with production involving Forest Whitaker's Significant Productions, i am OTHER and Playdate Productions.
