Matty Burton has reached the top of his sport. He holds a light-heavyweight title, and one more fight, against Andre Bright, is meant to bring in the money that will secure his family's future before he steps away from the ring. The bout is punishing, and soon after returning home Matty collapses. He wakes in a hospital bed to a diagnosis of memory loss, and must begin piecing his life back together while his wife, Emma, faces the strain of the changes in him. What follows is a struggle that turns out to be harder than any fight he has had.
Paddy Considine wrote and directed Journeyman, his second film as director after Tyrannosaur, and plays Matty himself, with Jodie Whittaker as Emma and Anthony Welsh as Andre. The British production was made by Film4 Productions and Inflammable Films, with Diarmid Scrimshaw producing, and runs 92 minutes.
On IMDb the film sits at 7 out of 10 from around 5,100 votes, while on TMDB it holds 6.6 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 6.8 out of 10 from 39 reviews places it slightly below the IMDb audience figure. The gap between the two audience scores reflects how much smaller the TMDB sample is, while the critics' score sits in broadly the same range as the larger IMDb result.
