Konga

A British botanist, Dr. Charles Decker, is presumed dead after a year in Africa. He returns to London with a chimpanzee named Konga and with knowledge of a plant extract that dramatically accelerates growth. Decker uses the serum in experiments on Konga, and the chimp begins to increase in size. Because Decker has enemies at home, he turns the growing animal into a tool against them, with deadly results. Konga eventually reaches a scale that Decker cannot control, and the creature runs loose through London.

The film was directed by John Lemont from a screenplay by Herman Cohen and Aben Kandel, and stars Michael Gough as Decker, with Margo Johns, Jess Conrad, Claire Gordon, Austin Trevor and Jack Watson in supporting roles. It was produced by American International Pictures, Anglo-Amalgamated and Merton Park Studios, and runs 90 minutes.

On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 10 from around 2,300 votes, and on TMDB it has a rating of 4.4 out of 10 from 39 votes. Those figures place it among the lower-rated horror and science fiction titles of its era, though the much larger vote count on IMDb gives that score more weight than the smaller sample on TMDB.
