Bodied

Bodied follows Adam, a graduate student at Berkeley who turns his academic interest in battle rap into a thesis project. After securing his dean's approval to study the culture up close, he attends an underground freestyle competition and tries to interview Behn Grymm, a rapper he admires. Adam gradually moves from observer to active participant, becoming a capable battler himself, and his success in that world stirs up discomfort and outrage.

The film is a comedy-drama with musical elements, directed by Joseph Kahn from a screenplay he wrote with Alex Larsen, and produced by Eminem. It sits between Kahn's Detention and his later work, as his fourth directed feature. Calum Worthy plays Adam, with Jackie Long as Behn Grymm, Rory Uphold as Maya, Jonathan Park, Walter Perez and Shoniqua Shandai among the credited cast of sixty. It was made for a budget of 15 million US dollars.

On IMDb, the film holds a 7.2 rating from 136 votes, while critics gave it 7.4 from 86 reviews, so both audiences and critics responded favourably and in close agreement. Released in November 2018, it runs 120 minutes and was produced as a YouTube Originals title.
