My Friend Boris Nemtsov

This documentary provides a personal look at Boris Nemtsov, a former Russian Deputy Prime Minister who transitioned from being a political successor to President Yeltsin to a staunch opponent of Vladimir Putin. The film follows Nemtsov through various settings, including protest rallies, courtrooms, and private moments, focusing on his life leading up to his assassination near the Kremlin in February 2015. The narrative centers on the evolution of a professional journalistic assignment into a close personal friendship.

Directed by Zosya Rodkevich, this was the first of two films she directed, followed by Любование in 2026. A joint production between Russia and Estonia by Marx Film, the project was produced by Maria Gavrilova, Alexandr Rastorguev, and Max Tuula. The film features appearances by Boris Nemtsov, Ilya Yashin, Alexei Navalny, and Boris Nadezhdin. With a runtime of 70 minutes, the documentary offers an intimate portrayal of a public figure by blending the routine of political life with private interactions.
