In present-day Los Angeles, Martin and Gabi meet through a dating app and spend a night together that was meant to stay casual. Instead, the two millennials, both immersed in a culture of constant connection and easily replaced partners, drift into a real relationship. When familiarity and routine set in, they look for an unconventional way to keep it going, testing how far they are willing to go emotionally and physically.
Drake Doremus directed the film, his fourth feature, following Like Crazy, Breathe In and Equals. Ben York Jones wrote the screenplay, and both he and Doremus produced alongside Michael Schaefer. Nicholas Hoult plays Martin Hallock and Laia Costa plays Gabi Silva, with Danny Huston, Courtney Eaton, Matthew Gray Gubler and Pom Klementieff among the supporting cast, part of a credited cast of 34.
Made for a budget of 10 million US dollars, the film was released in 2017 and runs 112 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.3 out of 10 from around 19,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from roughly 636 votes. The critics' rating of 6.3 from 17 reviews is close to the audience scores on both platforms, suggesting broadly similar reactions rather than a sharp divide between reviewers and viewers.
