Short description
Set in Los Angeles during the 1990s, the story follows Stevie, a thirteen-year-old boy struggling with a difficult home environment involving his mother and an aggressive older brother. Seeking a sense of belonging, he befriends a group of older skaters at a local shop. Throughout the summer, Stevie experiences a newfound freedom as he navigates the risks and rewards of this new social circle, moving from innocent fun toward more dangerous behavior to prove himself.

- After a preview, the filmmakers were told how great it was that they had discovered a film from the 1990s and decided to release it.
- Jonah Hill admitted that he was motivated to make this film by the dramas of Larry Clark, "Kids" (1995), and Shane Meadows, "This Is England" (2006).
- Jonah Hill admitted in an interview that he feared accusations of intolerance due to the constant swearing in the film, and he even considered inserting a scene where the guys discuss whether or not to use such words in their speech. He showed this scene to producer Scott Rudin, who asked him: “Did you and your friends worry about this as kids?” Hill had to answer negatively, and the matter was settled.
- To help the young actors better feel the atmosphere of the 1990s, Jonah Hill gave them tablets with a list of his favorite songs from that time. In addition, the shooting period included evenings when everyone watched films from those years.
