Slender Man

Slender Man centers on four teenage girls in a small Massachusetts town who decide to test whether the online horror figure known as Slender Man is real. Their attempt to summon him during what begins as an ordinary gathering goes wrong, and when one of the friends vanishes without explanation, the others come to believe the entity has taken her. The remaining girls try to make contact with him and bring her back, but their efforts leave them frightened and increasingly unstable as the legend intrudes on their everyday lives. The character originated as an internet creation that grew into a widely shared urban legend.

Sylvain White directed the film from a screenplay by David Birke, with James Vanderbilt, Bradley J. Fischer and William Sherak producing. It was White's fifth feature, arriving after I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, Stomp the Yard and The Losers. Julia Goldani Telles, Joey King, Jaz Sinclair and Annalise Basso play the four friends, with Javier Botet as the title figure and Alex Fitzalan among the supporting cast. The production was made for about 10 million dollars and took roughly 52 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget.

Audience response was weak: on TMDB it holds 4.3 out of 10 from about 2,190 votes, while the film critics' rating stands at 3.2 out of 10 from 79 reviews. Both measures point to a poor reception, with critics judging it more harshly than viewers.
