Short description
Suck is a Canadian comedy-horror film about a struggling rock band called The Winners, who are desperate for a record deal and will do almost anything to make it. After their bassist Jennifer has an encounter with a vampire, she returns to the group changed, and the attention she draws quickly brings them the fame they craved. As the band tours through Canada and the United States, success arrives alongside a growing appetite for blood, drawing the interest of vampire hunter Eddie Van Helsing, who has his own reasons to avoid the dark. The film follows the group as they discover that stardom may cost more than they expected.
Rob Stefaniuk wrote and directed the film, which runs 91 minutes and was released in 2009. Jessica Paré plays Jennifer, with Dave Foley as the band's manager Jeff. The cast also includes several rock figures in supporting roles, among them Iggy Pop as Victor, Henry Rollins as Rockin' Roger, and Alice Cooper as a bartender, while Malcolm McDowell appears as the vampire hunter.
On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from around 5,500 votes, and on TMDB it has a rating of 6.1 out of 10 from 164 votes. The similar scores across both suggest a modest but consistent response from viewers.
What's left behind the scenes
- Footage from the film "Oh, Lucky Man," in which the actor played the lead role, was inserted into the flashback scene featuring Eddie Van Helsing, the character played by Malcolm McDowell.
- Due to a limited budget, Alice Cooper provided his own wardrobe for the filming. The only exception was the black and red jacket, which was cut up in the final scene.
- The scene where Jessica Pare's character hangs over the bed of the character played by Rob Stefanuk was filmed with the camera lying on its side. The nightstand and lamp were screwed to the wall, and the actors simply stood there.
