Godha centres on Anjaneya Das, a former wrestler in a village in Kerala whose life has lost its direction. When he brings Aditi Singh, a driven woman wrestler from Punjab, back to his conservative community, her presence disturbs the established order around the local wrestling pits and sets off a change that is played as much for comedy as for drama.
The film was directed by Basil Joseph from a screenplay by Rakesh Mantodi, and it was the first feature Joseph directed before Minnal Murali in 2021. Tovino Thomas plays Anjaneya Das and Wamiqa Gabbi plays Aditi Singh, with Renji Panicker, Aju Varghese, Hareesh Peradi and Maala Parvathi among the twenty-eight credited cast members. It was produced by Mukesh R. Mehta, A.V. Anoop and C. V. Sarathi for E4 Entertainments and AVA Productions, and runs 120 minutes.
Released in India on 19 May 2017, the comedy-drama took about 3 million dollars worldwide. Audiences have responded warmly to it over the years: it holds a rating of 7.5 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 3,100 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7 out of 10 from a much smaller base of 34 votes. The larger IMDb sample points to a film that has kept a steady following since its release.
