Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween follows two middle-school friends, Sonny and Sam, who make pocket money by collecting and reselling other people's discarded possessions. While clearing out an abandoned house, they come across a locked book and open it, releasing Slappy, a malevolent ventriloquist's dummy. Slappy wants a family of his own and sets a plan in motion around Halloween to bring other monsters out of the book and into the real world. Sonny's sister Sarah joins the boys as they try to stop him and return the creatures to the pages before the town is overrun. The film is a family-oriented adventure comedy with fantasy and horror elements, based on the books by R.L. Stine, and it stands on its own rather than continuing the story of the 2015 film.

Ari Sandel directed, working from a screenplay by Rob Lieber, with Neal H. Moritz and Deborah Forte producing. It was Sandel's second feature as director, arriving between The DUFF and When We First Met. The cast includes Jeremy Ray Taylor as Sonny, Madison Iseman as Sarah, Caleel Harris as Sam, Mick Wingert as the voice of Slappy, Wendi McLendon-Covey as Kathy and Ken Jeong as Mr. Chu, among 63 credited cast members and 169 credited crew.

Made for about 35 million dollars, the film took roughly 93 million dollars worldwide, a solid return. Audiences rate it modestly, at 5.6 out of 10 on IMDb from around 26,000 votes and 6.1 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller base, while its critics' score of 5.5 out of 10 from 93 reviews sits close to the audience verdict. At 90 minutes, it is a brisk Halloween-themed diversion.
