Proud Mary

Proud Mary is an action crime thriller set in Boston, where Taraji P. Henson plays Mary, a professional hit woman employed by an organized crime family. Her routine is unsettled when a job goes wrong and she crosses paths with a young boy named Danny, played by Jahi Di'Allo Winston. The encounter stirs a maternal instinct she had not acknowledged, and she takes the boy under her protection. Danny Glover appears as Benny, while Billy Brown, Neal McDonough and Margaret Avery round out the credited cast of thirty-two.

The film was directed by Babak Najafi, his second feature after London Has Fallen in 2016 and before The Florist in 2026. The screenplay is credited to Steve Antin, Christian Swegal and John Newman, with Paul Schiff and Tai Duncan producing for Screen Gems. Made for roughly fourteen million dollars, it took in about twenty-two million worldwide, a modest return on its production cost.

Audience response was mixed. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.1 from around eleven thousand votes, and on TMDB it sits at 5.5 from roughly five hundred votes. A critics' rating of 4.2 from seventy-five reviews places professional assessment below even the modest audience scores. At eighty-eight minutes, the film is a compact genre entry built around Henson's lead performance.
