Frank Valera is a successful defense attorney whose skill in the courtroom rests on his gift for words. That life ends when his wife and daughter are murdered, and the case goes nowhere. Frank takes a vow of silence that he will not break until he has found those responsible and taken his revenge, giving up the very tool that made him a persuasive advocate. He trains himself into a different kind of weapon and pursues his own investigation through the criminal underworld.
Antonio Banderas plays Frank, with Karl Urban as Strode, Paz Vega as Alma, Robert Forster as Chuck, and Cristina Serafini and Lillian Blankenship as his wife and daughter. Isaac Florentine directed from a screenplay by Matt Venne. Acts of Vengeance, released in 2017 and running 87 minutes, is the ninth of the twelve features Florentine has directed, following Close Range and preceding Seized. It was produced by Nu Boyana Film Studios with Boaz Davidson, Les Weldon and John Thompson producing and a budget of 10 million dollars.
Reactions were mixed. On IMDb the film holds 5.7 out of 10 from about 15,000 votes, and on TMDB it has 6 out of 10 from roughly 617 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 6.3 out of 10 from 11 reviews, so the small critical sample lands slightly above the much larger audience samples.
