Before We Vanish

Narumi and her husband Shinji are going through a difficult period in their marriage when Shinji suddenly disappears. He returns a few days later, apparently a changed man: gentle, attentive and strangely detached, and he takes a daily walk without explanation. Around the same time, a family is found murdered, and journalist Sakurai begins looking into the case. As he investigates, he encounters a young man searching for someone and asking to be guided through the human world, while odd events spread through the town.

The film is directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, who wrote the screenplay with Sachiko Tanaka. It is the eighth of the fifteen films he has directed in chronological order, arriving between Creepy and To the Ends of the Earth. Masami Nagasawa plays Narumi and Ryuhei Matsuda plays Shinji, with Mahiro Takasugi, Yuri Tsunematsu, Hiroki Hasegawa and Atsuko Maeda in supporting roles. It is a Japanese and British production running 129 minutes.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.2 from around 3,100 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.5 from 103 votes. A critics' rating of 6.6 from 51 reviews places it close to the audience scores, suggesting a similar overall response.
