Life in a Year

Life in a Year centres on Daryn, a seventeen-year-old who learns that his girlfriend Isabelle is terminally ill and has roughly a year to live. Rather than let that time slip away, he sets out to fill it with the experiences and memories that would make up a whole lifetime, packing years of living into the months she has left. The relationship between the two, and the weight of what Daryn has taken on, drive the story.

Mitja Okorn directed the film, which was released in November 2020 and runs 107 minutes. It is the first of the two features listed for him, followed by Boxer in 2024. The screenplay is credited to Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. Jaden Smith plays Daryn and Cara Delevingne plays Isabelle, with Cuba Gooding Jr., Chris D'Elia, JT Neal and Stony Blyden among the supporting cast; 31 performers are credited in total. Columbia Pictures and Overbrook Entertainment produced it.

Audience responses to the drama and romance were split. On IMDb the film holds 6.3 out of 10 from around 12,000 votes, a middling result, while on TMDB it sits at 8.2 out of 10 from about 2,000 votes, a markedly warmer score. The gap between the larger and smaller voting pools suggests the film found a more enthusiastic following among one group of viewers than the broader IMDb audience.
