Kickboxer: Retaliation

Kurt Sloane has tried to put Thailand behind him. A year after his fight with Tong Po, he is training for an MMA title shot when he is drugged and taken back to the country he swore never to visit again. He wakes up in a prison, where his captors make him an offer: face a fighter named Mongkut, and he will receive two million dollars and his freedom. When he refuses, a bounty is placed on him, leaving him no real choice. To have any chance against the much larger opponent, he must train harder than he ever has, under mentors he did not expect.

Dimitri Logothetis directed and co-wrote the film with Jim McGrath, and also produced it. It is the second entry in the Kickboxer series he directed, following The Closer, Cheyenne and Kickboxer: Vengeance, and preceding Jiu Jitsu and Gunner. Alain Moussi returns as Kurt Sloane, with Christophe Lambert, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mike Tyson, Sara Malakul Lane and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson as Mongkut among a credited cast of 38.

Made for 13 million dollars and released in January 2018, the film drew modest audience scores: on IMDb it holds 5 out of 10 from around 6,700 votes, and on TMDB 5.4 out of 10 from roughly 329 votes. A small sample of critics rated it 6.6 out of 10, higher than the audience scores.
