Short description
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness follows Stephen Strange as he is drawn into a crisis that spans alternate realities. A young woman named America Chavez, who can travel between parallel universes, is being hunted by a powerful force that wants her ability for itself. With Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, Strange tries to keep her safe, and the search for help leads him to Wanda Maximoff, whose own plans place her at odds with them. Strange must move through dangerous versions of reality and face a threat that is greater than the powers of those standing against it.
The film is directed by Sam Raimi, the fifteenth of the seventeen features he has directed to date, arriving after Oz the Great and Powerful and before Send Help. Michael Waldron wrote the screenplay, and Kevin Feige produced it for Marvel Studios. Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Strange, with Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer. It runs 126 minutes.
Released in May 2022, the film cost about 295 million dollars and took roughly 956 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.9/10 from over 461,000 votes and on TMDB 7.2/10 from more than 10,000. The critics' rating stands at 6.5/10 across 460 reviews, below both audience figures.
What's left behind the scenes
- Almost 40 minutes of footage was cut from the film during post-production.
- Benedict Wong broke several ribs while performing one of their stunts.
- Sam Raimi vowed never to make superhero films again after the failure of "Spider-Man 3: Enemy of Reflection."
