Outlaw King

Outlaw King is set in fourteenth-century Scotland, where Robert Bruce, Earl of Carrick, claims the Scottish crown after the English king Edward I occupies the country. Refusing to submit, Bruce has himself crowned king and gathers loyal followers, but a surprise attack by the English forces defeats him and he is declared an outlaw. He then leads a small, disparate band of insurgents against the far larger and better-equipped English army commanded by Edward I and his son, the Prince of Wales, fighting to recover the throne and win Scotland's independence while protecting his family and people.

David Mackenzie directed and co-wrote the film with Bathsheba Doran and James MacInnes. It followed Hell or High Water, the eighth film he directed, and preceded Relay and Fuze. Chris Pine plays Robert Bruce, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson as James Douglas, Florence Pugh as Elizabeth Burgh, Billy Howle as the Prince of Wales, Sam Spruell as Aymer de Valence and Tony Curran as Angus Og Macdonald.

Released in 2018, the film runs 122 minutes and is an action, history and war drama produced in the United Kingdom and the United States. It had a budget of 120 million US dollars. On IMDb it holds 6.9 out of 10 from 88,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.8 out of 10 from 1,750 votes. A film critics' rating stands at 6.2 out of 10 from 155 reviews, placing it below the audience scores.
