Action Point
Short description
Action Point is a comedy about D.C., a thrill-seeking man who runs a ramshackle amusement park built around rides he has designed himself. The stunts and attractions put fun ahead of safety, and the staff he hires are hardly suited to the job. When a large, polished competitor opens nearby, D.C.'s park looks badly out of date, and he sets out to save it with help from a group of equally reckless friends. At the same time, he tries to reconnect with his daughter Boogie, whom he has not seen in a long time, during her visit.
Tim Kirkby directs, working from a screenplay by John Altschuler and star Johnny Knoxville. It is the first of three features Kirkby has directed, followed by Last Looks and Bad Tidings. Knoxville plays D.C. and also produces, with Bill Gerber and Derek Freda. Chris Pontius appears as Benny, alongside Clover Nee, Eleanor Worthington-Cox, Susan Yeagley and Dan Bakkedahl among 28 credited cast members.
The film was released in June 2018 and runs 85 minutes. Made for about 19 million US dollars, it took in roughly 5 million worldwide, a return well below its cost. Audiences rate it modestly, at 5.2 out of 10 on IMDb from about 13,000 votes and 5.5 out of 10 on TMDB from 368 votes. A critics' score of 3.6 out of 10 from 50 reviews is lower than both audience figures.
What's left behind the scenes
- Johnny Knoxville preferred to perform all his stunts himself. Because of this, the actor was a regular patient at the trauma center throughout all 14 weeks of filming.
- During filming, Johnny Knoxville sustained the following injuries: four concussions, two orbital fractures (left eye), a broken arm, a damaged vertebral arch, two knocked-out teeth and one chipped tooth, multiple cuts, and a torn meniscus.
