Crazy Rich Asians

Rachel Chu, an economics professor born and raised in New York, agrees to travel with her longtime boyfriend Nick Young to Singapore for the wedding of his best friend. She has never visited Asia and looks forward to seeing the region her family came from, though meeting Nick's relatives makes her uneasy. On the trip she learns that he left out a significant part of his background: his family is among the wealthiest in the country, and he is one of its most sought-after bachelors. Thrown into a world of enormous fortunes and old social expectations, Rachel draws attention from envious women of the local elite and, more seriously, from Nick's disapproving mother. The screenplay by Pete Chiarelli and Adele Lim adapts Kevin Kwan's novel.

Jon M. Chu directed the film, the ninth of the thirteen features he has made in chronological order, following Now You See Me 2 and preceding In the Heights. Constance Wu plays Rachel, Henry Golding is Nick, and Michelle Yeoh plays his mother Eleanor, with Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu and Awkwafina among the supporting cast. The production cost about 30 million dollars and took roughly 239 million dollars worldwide, a strong return on its budget.

On IMDb the film holds 6.9 out of 10 from around 208,000 votes, while on TMDB it averages 7 out of 10 from about 4,000 votes. A critics' rating of 7.7 out of 10 from 373 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores.
